Discover what’s new with Sphere XG this new year to make your workflows easier and more efficient.

Point Cloud Analysis (Beta) in FARO Sphere XG

We’re excited to introduce point cloud analysis directly within Sphere XG. This new function (in beta) allows for easy evaluation and visualization of key surface characteristics like flatness and levelness of floors and ceilings, as well as plumbness of walls or any other surfaces, enabling users to perform QA/QC workflows as well as troubleshoot issues effectively to make informed decisions and ensure project accuracy. We are looking for your feedback during this beta phase!

New Function: Generate Orthophotos

We’ve added the ability to generate high-quality orthophotos directly from point cloud data within Sphere XG. Simply hit the “Export” button in the right-side menu, select “Orthophoto”, crop your desired view, and select the side you want to create the orthophoto from.

Orthophotos offer accurate scale and precise measurements, making them ideal for understanding building facades, creating overview maps, and easily measuring distances. These lightweight 2D images are easily shareable, making it convenient to include them in presentations or upload them to CAD software for accurate design considerations.

French Language Now Supported

Bonne nouvelle pour les utilisateurs francophones! The Sphere XG Dashboard now supports French! We added this option at the request of our French-speaking users to improve your user experience. To switch languages, simply click on your profile icon in the top right corner and select your preferred language.

Upload New Floor Plans

You can now import additional 2D floor plans (PDF or image) in just a few clicks via the “Import Data” Button in the top right corner. While uploading, you can crop and rotate these floor plans to your needs. This creates a new area, enabling you to capture additional 360° photos or point clouds.

Improved Copying of Measurements

We’ve expanded copy options for measurement information. Just click on the copy icon (in the middle) in the measurements menu and choose what to copy. You can either copy just the distance value, or the coordinates, or the distance of all segments in that measurement to your clipboard.

Copying coordinates is especially helpful for creating polylines in CAD software. Simply copy and paste the coordinates to quickly generate the desired polyline.

Improved 3D Navigation with WASD Keys

Navigate 3D datasets intuitively using WASD keys, just like in PC games. This navigation works in both 3D Overview and Walk modes for point clouds and 3D models. In 3D Overview, ‘fly’ through your data by combining WASD keys with mouse movements. Your direction of view determines your movement, allowing for free exploration. Walk mode keeps your movement onto the Z-axis, simulating walking on-site. Even when looking up, your movement remains grounded to the floor.
