Constant development and improvement is at the core of what we do, and we’re excited to share the latest product updates in September that make your lives a little easier!

Sphere XG

SCENE to Sphere XG Direct Uploads

Gone are the days of multiple datasets and complicated point cloud export and uploads. You can now upload point clouds completely with registration data to Sphere XG directly from SCENE with the new SCENE 2024 Update.

SCENE to XG Upload Button

Sign into your Sphere XG account from within SCENE, select your workspace to where you want to upload your scans. Open a SCENE project and in the project tab hit the “Upload” button in the Sphere XG tile. Once the upload is finished you can view your data in Sphere XG.

New Rendering Profiles for Optimized Point Cloud Rendering

With data coming from a wide range of devices—whether it’s high-precision terrestrial scanners , SLAM-based mobile mappers, and lidar-equipped phones and tablets —each one generates point clouds with unique characteristics. Our goal is simple: bring reality to life on your screen, as if you were standing right there.

To help you achieve the most accurate and realistic visualizations, we’ve introduced some new rendering profiles. Whether you need fast previews, highly detailed renderings, or a balance between the two, these profiles give you the control to tailor the rendering to your specific dataset.

Waypoint Location Display Options

To capture all necessary information, scanners are often placed at various heights, such as between ceilings, above tiles, or inside ducts, where critical elements are located. We understand how important it is to navigate these locations effortlessly. We’ve added a new toggle button, allowing you to choose whether to display scanner positions on the floor (default) or at the scanner head, making it easier to identify and select the correct waypoint for your review.

Measurement Decomposition

Bringing your 3D point clouds into Sphere XG allows you to quickly and accurately measure within your point clouds. With the latest update to how measurements are displayed, you can switch between a diagonal and a horizontal/vertical measurement with just one click.

If you take a diagonal 2-point measurement of an object, for example a column as shown below, and then click on the measurement, the toolbar shows a new icon. This icon enables you to change how the measurement is displayed.

Improved SCENE to Sphere XG Point Cloud Processing

You provided the feedback, we heard you, and now we’re releasing several improvements to optimize the way Sphere XG processes point clouds during an import from the SCENE 3D software.

  • Should scans fail to convert during import, Sphere XG now allows you to view the partially converted and processed scans while indicating areas that failed to convert, no longer denying users access to partially converted imports.
  • You can now view projects as soon as the overview map is generated while additional data is being processed in the background.
  • Sphere XG will now automatically update as soon as each scan is processed in the backend without requiring a page refresh.
